Die-cutting and creasing

Photo showing Die cutting and creasingDie-cutting is the process used to cut out shapes that are not possible with a guillotine so areas of the document are partially or completely cut, shaped, or cut-out in a variety of shapes using a cutting forme.

The process uses sharp metal rules on a wooden block and the steel blade punches out the desired shape and also blunt rules can be used to create creasing lines which help the material to fold and to reduce cracking.

Examples of die-cuts include simple slits designed to hold the corners of a business card, circular cuts to create door hangers. Die-cuts on the outside of a piece can allow the text or part of an image to show through from the inside. Die-cutting can be used to create rounded corners, flaps, holes, windows, or pop-ups, an entire piece may be die-cut into unique shapes.

We use Die-cutting most commonly on folders, mailers or point of sale and others.
