With many different options of binding available we can deliver the final touch to your project.

There are many types of binding available and when choosing a style of binding for your project you should consider budget, number of pages, size, turnaround time, longevity and the purpose of the document.  To help you with your choice, simply follow our guide below to find the perfect type of binding for your job.

Saddle Stitching

Saddle Stich bindingThis is one of the most popular book binding methods and is a great choice for everyday projects to produce professional looking brochures and booklets.

In saddle stitching, folded sheets of paper are nested one within another and attached by wire staples through the centre fold to encase all the pages.

The pages must always be in multiples of 4 and usually this binding is suitable for thinner books, typically 64 pages or less.

Perfect Binding

Perfect bindingPerfect binding is where the leaves of the book are held together at the binding edge by adhesive, a soft cover is attached to the spine and is formed around the book and once dry the three side are trimmed to give them clean perfect edges, this binding is typically used for magazines, catalogues and manuals.

We use PUR (polyurethane reactive) adhesive as this is tougher than a typical EVA adhesive and this ensures there is no compromise with the bind strength and means that the product can lay flatter.

Hard Cover / Sewn Binding

Sewn bindingHard cover (or case) binding is very similar to perfect bound books but with a hard cover rather than a soft cover.  The inside pages are sewn together in sections then glued to end papers which will be glued to the inside front and back covers. Hardbacks are the perfect choice for any formal or stylish publications such as yearbooks.

When your document is sewn bound, a single thread of any colour is stitched through folded pages down the length of the outer spine which means that the pages are very secure.  One of the main practical advantages is that the books can lay flatter than perfect binding.

This method is perfect for your luxury or creative projects and gives you a beautiful and traditional finish.

Comb / Wiro Binding

Wiro bindingComb binding is a method of securing loose printed pages using round plastic spines with ring tabs that roll into the spine itself.  This is a popular and economical method of producing bound documents, especially for presentations or office documents as it has the advantage of allowing pages to lie flat and pages can be added or removed.  Also if required for larger sheet projects the combs can be printed on.

Wiro binding is a sturdy but flexible way to showcase your product and binds loose leaves using a series of metal wire loops formed from a single continuous wire run through punched holes. They are durable, but do not allow the insertion of new pages but the benefit is that all of the document’s pages lie flat when opened and can turn easily through 360 degrees. Wiro is typically used to bind recipe books, instruction manuals, note pads, reports and calendars.

Screw Binding

With this technique a hole is drilled through the covers and inner pages and a screw is inserted to hold the pages of a book together and with this it gives you the ability to add or remove pages as needed.  It is a popular choice for menus, portfolios, photo albums, guest books and swatches as they look impressive and are easy to update whilst providing a modern and sleek look.

Stab or Side Stitched

Stab stitching is used when you want to secure loose sheets into your business form books.  Wire is threaded from the front cover or from both sides using two or more very strong wire which produces a visible stitch on the front of the document which can be covered up by applying tape to the spine. This is primarily used for your NCR pads and books or a document with a perforation which can be torn off ie invoices, delivery notes or purchase orders, etc.  This is a simple book binding method but does not allow the book to completely open or lay flat.
